I have to admit, as much as I love making a big dinner with a fancy dessert, I never feel more sophisticated than when I have a mixed drink in my hand!
I don’t know if it’s from watching movies when I was a kid, watching all of the adults order these crazy drinks in these fancy glasses that just really stuck with me!
With that being said, I also only have like three mixed drinks that I even like… One of those being the ever-amazing margarita! Margaritas, aka party in a glass, has to be one of my all-time favorite drinks! Nothing screams a party than when you order one of these in a restaurant and the waiter brings you a mini fishbowl filled to the brim with this golden green nectar! I can almost taste the salty rim right now!
Now, for those of you who don’t like the salty rim, don’t worry! I have a couple of different options! First, there’s just a plain ole’ salty rim, which is totally amazing, and the salt pairs perfectly with the tart lime juice! The second option would be using sugar instead of salt. I would suggest only doing half of the rim, that way it’s not like a sugar overload, but the sweetness of the sugar helps balance out any sourness the margarita might have! My last option is grating lime zest into the salt. This has to be my favorite option because I love being able to taste the zesty punch of the lime! It helps enhance the lime flavor throughout the drink, which makes everything better!
2-3 ounces of Tequila
Juice of 2 limes
1 ounce of Triple sec
1 ounce of Lemon Lime Soda
A handful of ice cubes
Salt, for rim (optional)
To salt the rim, take one half of the lime and run it just on the edge of the glass, then dip the edge into the salt. I like to zest the lime into the salt first to really enhance the lime flavor throughout the drink.
Then, in a cocktail shaker, add tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and a handful of ice cubes. Shake vigorously for about a minute or so. Or until the shaker is so cold, you can’t hold it anymore.
Add ice to the glasses and then pour the margarita about two-thirds of the way full. Top with lemon-lime soda or a lime seltzer to add a little bubbly to the drink!
Top with a little slice of lime and your margarita is ready to be enjoyed!
Margaritas have to be one of my favorite mixed drinks! I love how tart they are with a subtle kick from the salt around the edge! Oh my goodness, I wish I had one in my hand right now!
