‘Tis the season for Christmas movies!! Romantic, heart-warming, cozy, cheesy, I love them all!
There are a few that I watch on repeat throughout the season, but I love to try and branch out to new ones!
It’s funny because I’m not really a big rom-com fan. I watch them occasionally throughout the year but not as much as I do at Christmas time! Sometimes, you just need to see a happy ending, right! Everyone talks about Hallmark Christmas movies, but I think that Netflix is really stepping up their game.
One essential that remains true throughout the whole year is popcorn during a movie! I love to munch on the salty buttery goodness of popcorn. I wish I could say that one bag of popcorn will last me an entire movie, but honestly, it’s gone before the opening credits are finished…
This salty-sweet popcorn combination was inspired by something my cousin made for a birthday party a few years ago! It was for a fairy themed birthday, I believe, so we all made colorful desserts to bring. My cousin made this sweet popcorn dish with sprinkles throughout and I loved it! The sweet white chocolate with the salty popcorn is a wonderful combination!
You could also change this recipe up to fit any occasion! You could add nuts, dried fruits, other candies, sprinkles, etc! I love a dessert that can fit any bill!
Side note: I used a lightly salted popcorn for this. I’m not quite sure how a buttered popcorn would hold up the white chocolate. I would stick with a plain or simply salted popcorn, and leave the buttered popcorn for another movie night!
1 bag of lightly salted microwave-popcorn
1 bag of mint-flavored candy-coated chocolates
2 cups of crushed pretzels
1 cup of white chocolate chips
Begin by popping the popcorn in the microwave following the bag’s instructions. For my microwave, it took about 2 minutes to fully pop the popcorn without burning it! Then pour the popcorn into a large bowl and allow to cool slightly.
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate in thirty-second intervals until fully melted. Set aside.
Pour the mint candy-coated chocolate into the bowl with the popcorn. Then gently crush the pretzels in your hands and add those to the popcorn bowl. Take the white chocolate and drizzle half over the popcorn. Using a spoon, gently toss the popcorn mixture. Then, add in the remaining white chocolate. Continue to mix the popcorn mixture with a large spoon (or hands if necessary!) until the white chocolate has coated all the ingredients!
Allow the white chocolate to harden at room temperature for about an hour or so. Once the chocolate has hardened, break the popcorn into small chunks, and serve in a large bowl.
Seriously, after one bite, you will be hooked! I couldn’t stop myself from munching on the popcorn! I love the salty popcorn with the crunch from pretzel and the minty zing from the chocolates. Oh, my gosh. You don’t know what you’re missing until you try this easy mash-up dessert!
