Extra Additions:

These Homemade Ornaments are the perfect craft for the holiday season! They’re perfect for making place settings for Thanksgiving or hanging up on the Christmas tree! Here are a few ways you can decorate your cinnamon ornaments!

Dried Oranges: I love having dried orange slices around the holidays; it feels so rustic and homey! You can take a pretty ribbon and attachment a cinnamon ornament to a dried orange slice for a beautifully rustic Christmas decoration! If you like orange and cinnamon together, you can add a little orange zest into the cinnamon dough as well!

Fresh Herbs: Rosemary is so popular this time of year, you could also tie a cute little wreath of rosemary around your cinnamon dough ornaments!

Gingerbread: Add in some ground ginger with the cinnamon to give these a gingerbread look! Bonus points if you use gingerbread cookie cutters! Just maybe don’t place them beside the actually gingerbread cookies…

Essential Oils: To infuse these DIY cinnamon ornaments with more flavor, you can add in a few drops of essential oils! From cinnamon, to orange, to vanilla, there’s a ton of different flavors you could experiment with! You really only need to add a few drops to the water before pouring into the dry ingredients!

Equipment Needed:

Rolling Pin – This helps makes your dough is all the same thickness when it comes to cutting out your shapes!

Cookie Cutters – You can use whatever shape cookie cutter you like! Then I like to use a skewer or a toothpick to make a small hole at the top for wrapping ribbon on them!

Mixing Bowl – For this recipe, I like to use a large mixing bowl so I can work the dough together in the bowl first, before rolling out the mixture!

Baking Sheet – I use a large baking sheet to give these ornaments plenty of space to dry out in the oven!

Parchment Paper – I prefer to use parchment paper to prevent the ornaments from sticking! You can also use parchment paper to help roll them out or just slightly flour your work surface!

Letter Cookie Cutters – To make these into place card settings for the dining table, I found little letter cookie cutters on Amazon! Then you can stamp out each person’s name before baking! I love doing this because it’s a creative way to spice up your table settings and have a spot for everyone to sit! And bonus, everyone can take it home as well!

Helpful Tips and Tricks

Another fun hack to do with these handmade ornaments, especially if you have young kids, is to press their hand in the dough to create an ornament with their little hands on it! It’s a sweet way to remember how tiny their hands were that year!

You want this to be a nice, smooth dough, so if you feel that it’s a little too dry; feel free to add a bit more water, one tablespoon at a time until you get the right consistency.  On the other hand, if you feel like the dough is too sticky or wet, add more flour! This is a really simple dough, so you can add a little bit each way until you get the perfect consistency.

This is such a simple recipe but it makes for the most fun project around the holidays! I like to use these to to decorate table settings or to hang around your Christmas tree! The smell of the cinnamon is so nostalgic and wonderful this time of year! Who needs a holiday candle when you have these!?

Happy Thanksgiving! Cheers!
