Why You’ll Love…

You’ll love how easy these hand pies are to whip together to enjoy all throughout the week! They come together really quickly and are the perfect crowd pleasing dessert! It’s perfect to make ahead of time and warm up right before your guests arrive!

Types of Apples

This time of year, you really can’t go wrong with any kind of apples! I absolutely love taking advantage of all the delicious apples to add to desserts, smoothies, oatmeal, or just snacking on their own!

When it comes to adding apples to desserts, my first rule of thumb is to obviously use an apple you like! We really want to increase the apple flavor and really highlight it in this recipe, so make sure you are using your favorite kind of apple! From granny smith, to fuji, to red delicious, there’s really a ton of options and you won’t go wrong with any!

For this recipe, I like to use fuji or gala because I like the texture they have when they start to cook down!

Substitutions and Additions:

These Spiced Caramel Apple Hand Pies are absolutely delicious during the chilly fall season! Here are a few additions to make these hand pies even better!

Cookie Cutter: Instead of just cutting these into simple rectangles, you can really use whatever shape you like to make these into cute seasonal desserts! You can use an apple shape cookie cutter or fall leaves to make these extra special and cute!

Add Some Crunch: Add in some nuts to add the perfect little crunch to go along with the flaky pie crust! You can also add smear of peanut butter on the inside of the crust if you like! That would also be delicious!

Caramel Chips: Instead of drizzling caramel over the top of these hand pies, you can add the little caramel chips in the baking aisle directly to the filling!

Extra Zest: If you want to balance out the sweetness of this dessert, you can add in a squeeze of lemon juice to help brighten all the flavors!

Equipment Needed:

Baking Sheet – I like to use a large baking sheet so there’s plenty of room for the air to circulate around the hand pies! This allows the pie dough to get those perfect flakey layers that has the best crunch to it!

Small Skillet – This recipe starts off with cookie down the apples! I like to do this step to really help the apples soften down in the filling! I like to use a small nonstick skillet for this step!

Rolling Pin – You might need to roll out your pie dough, so I recommend using a lightly floured surface and rolling pin!
