I’m going to start with a little confessional here. This is really hard for me to admit, but I am not the biggest fan of pizza…
I know, it’s crazy! Pizza is amazing and wonderful and the best food on the planet, or so I’ve been told. I like pizza crust, I like pizza sauce, and I definitely love mozzarella cheese. For some reason, when it’s all put together, I just don’t feel the same way.
However, like most things I encounter, I find that I like it better when I make it home. Maybe that’s just a personal bias though…
This pizza crust is made with my favorite dough ever! I have used it for a bajillion different recipes and I don’t think I’m ever going to stop using it! Just flour, yogurt, and baking powder and you are minutes away from a thousand different recipes! To make it stand out from the rest, I added a little bit of Italian seasoning to the dough to help give the crust a little bit more flavor!
Another trick I use to make this dough a little bit more special is brushing the top of the crust with an olive oil rub before topping with the sauce, cheese, and toppings! The first time I made this pizza, I didn’t really pay much attention to the crust, which was fine, it still tasted delicious! But adding this olive oil rub takes the crust from a 6 to an 11! It adds a nice little kick to the edge that makes the crust just as special as that perfect bite!
1 cup of flour
1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
1 cup of nonfat Greek yogurt
1 bag of shredded mozzarella
Your favorite pizza sauce, homemade or store-bought
Pizza toppings of choice
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1/8 of a teaspoon of garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon of dried oregano
Sprinkle of cayenne
In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, Italian seasoning, and salt. Whisk together. Add in the cup of Greek yogurt! Mix until slightly combined, or a shaggy dough forms! Dump onto a floured surface and knead for about a minute or two! Add in extra flour if the dough is really sticky! Then take a rolling pin and roll out into a rough circle, it’s okay if it’s not perfect, that makes it look more homemade! You want the dough to be about 1/2 an inch thick! Place on a pizza pan or just an oiled baking sheet. You want the pizza to form a nice crust on the bottom!
Bake in a 450-degree oven for ten minutes! The top should be slightly puffed and browned! While the pizza is in the oven, combine the olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, and cayenne. Remove the pizza from the oven and brush with the olive oil mixture, making sure to really coat the edges of the pizza. Then add the pizza sauce, cheese, and whichever toppings you’d like! Place back in the oven for another 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly! Then slice and serve!
I can’t tell you how much this pizza means to me, and that’s really saying something for someone who’s food pyramid doesn’t even include pizza…
