Creamy, Smooth Homemade Hot Chocolate

When it’s cold outside, there’s only one thing I crave: a warm, steaming cup of hot chocolate. With extra marshmallows, obviously.

The packet of powdered hot chocolate is delicious in its own rights, don’t get me wrong. But once you’ve tried this delectable concoction, you’ll see that it’s like night and day!

This hot chocolate is creamy, rich, and, more importantly, actually tastes like chocolate! It comes together all in one pot and all you have to do is stir!

Recipe Notes: I used semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you could use whatever chocolate in whatever form you’d like. You could use dark chocolate bars, milk chocolate chips, or another chocolate you’re in the mood for.

Also, make sure you use unsweetened cocoa powder. The reason I use unsweetened, as well as semi-sweet chocolate chips, is that I want to be in control of the sweetness level. By using semi-sweet chocolate and unsweetened cocoa powder, I can add in more chocolate depending on the taste buds of my consumers.

Ingredients:

3 cups of milk

1 cup of heavy cream

1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

8-ounces of semi-sweet chocolate

1/4 plus 2 tablespoons cup of sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

A pinch of salt

Marshmallows, for garnish

Whipped Cream, for garnish

Combine milk, heavy cream, and chocolate into a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Stir occasionally until chocolate begins to melt. Then whisk in cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla, and salt!

Once all the chocolate has melted and the ingredients are whisked in, ladle evenly into four mugs.

Top with marshmallows, chocolate drizzle, whipped cream, or a combination of all of them (I don’t judge!).

This hot chocolate is exactly what you need as the weather begins to cool down!
