Why You’ll Love…

We all love a quick and easy recipe for dessert, but this one is even easier than you think! The flavor of the sweet caramel with the cinnamon cereal pairs perfectly to get that crispy churro flavor we all know and love! The whole recipe comes together in 20 minutes and is such crowd pleasing dessert! I definitely recommend this one for after Taco Tuesday! Like how good does that sound!?!

Cereal Treat Variations:

It should come to no surprise to anyone that making these rice crispy treats are some of my favorite desserts to make! It’s such a nostalgic bite that just fills you with warmth and happiness! Not to mention, it couldn’t be easier to make and with only 5 ingredients! Here are some other variations on how to make this Churro Rice Krispie Treat recipe!

Rice Cereal – if you can’t find any cinnamon cereal at the store, just use regular rice cereal, then you can about a teaspoon of cinnamon into the melted marshmallow mixture! This will infuse the treats with that perfect cinnamon bite! And if you wanted to get really fancy (which I know you do), you can even add a layer of cinnamon-sugar topping to really get that churro flavor!

Chocolate – Now you know me, I love adding a little extra chocolate to every recipe! With this I would recommend using melted chocolate chips to just drizzle over the top! Almost like dipping a churro into chocolate! You can do milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white chocolate would be delicious!

Dulce de Leche – To really infuse these with the most churro flavor, you can leave out the caramel and add a later of dulce de leche to the top of the cereal bars! You can find this at most grocery stores and turn these into dulce de leche rice krispie treats!

Equipment Needed:

There’s two ways to make these bars! You can either use a small saucepan to just melt the marshmallows then pour everything into a large glass bowl to mix everything together! Or you can use a large pot to melt the marshmallows and add the cereal to the pot!

It’s really up to you! I prefer to use a small saucepan and glass bowl for two reasons:

  1. It’s really hard to hold a large pot and pour the mixture into the square pan for the bars to set in. I always struggled with this part and it was easier for me to hold a glass bowl than the large Dutch oven I would use!
  2. It’s easier to mix everything together by pouring the melted marshmallows over the cereal! You don’t have to worry about any marshmallow being stuck to the bottom of the pan!

Either way it’s up to you! These are just my thoughts on making the process just a bit easier for you!

Ingredient List:

  • Cinnamon Cereal
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Butter – I prefer salted butter to unsalted butter, especially in this recipe to balance out the sweetness!
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Caramel
  • Flaky Salt

See Recipe Card for Full recipe.

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1. Add cinnamon cereal to a large glass bowl. Save one cup of mini marshmallows to add to the bowl.

Step 2. Add butter and mini marshmallow to a saucepan and melt over medium heat.

Step 3: Pour melted marshmallow over the cereal. Stir everything together and pour into a square pan lined with parchment paper.

Step 4. Top with a caramel drizzle and pinch of flaky salt!

Storage Instructions:

I like to cut these bars into squares then store in an airtight container at room temperature for about 3-4 days! I don’t recommend freezing these bars or putting them in the fridge! That can dry them out and make them just a bit too hard! We want deliciously crunchy, not break-a-tooth crunchy!

These bars can last a few days so they’re great for making ahead of time for a party or get together! They’re the best take home treats!

Helpful Tips and Tricks

  1. The marshmallow mixture can get pretty sticky, so I recommend having non-stick spray or cooking spray around when making these! You can spray it on the spatula or even your hands to help manage the stickiness!
  2. AFter pouring the marshmallow mixture into the cereal, you want to work a bit quick, so I always like to have a prepared pan ready before I start melting the marshmallow!

I hope you love these easy no bake treats! The cinnamon cereal pairs so perfectly with the sweet caramel and the pinch of salt on top is really just perfect! I hope you love these treats as much as I do!

Cheers!
