Why You’ll Love…

You’ll love how easy it is to make your own pastries at home! Turn your kitchen into a bakery by using an easy store-bought shortcut with puff pastry! It’s the perfect shortcut to get those flakey, buttery layers without any of the hassle!

Puff Pastry

Puff pastry is one of my favorite store-bought shortcuts to use whenever I’m making any kind of danish or pasty! It has the perfect flakey crust without having to make it yourself!

You can typically find puff pastry at your local grocery stores in the frozen section! It’s usually by the whipped cream at my local grocery store!

When it comes to working with puff pasty, you want to keep it in the freezer until you’re ready to use, and then let it thaw in the fridge or at room temperature right before you’re going to use it! Then I like to unfold it and make my cuts along the creases in the dough! It makes it easier to get even rectangles that way!

If you feel like your puff pastry is starting to stick to the board, you can add a little dusting of flour! Be sure to not let your puff pastry get too warm when you’re working with it! The power of puff pastry comes from the butter melting in the oven that creates those pockets of air to create the perfect flaky pastry!

Substitutions and Additions:

I love the combination of these blueberry cream cheese pastries, with the creamy centers, the flakey crust and the sweet crunch from the crumble! Here are a few ways to spice up this recipe:

Fresh Berries – I love adding the juicy blueberries to this recipe, especially if you’re making this during summer when blueberries are the freshies! However, you can also use raspberries or other berries in this recipe!

Fruit Filling – If you want to make this recipe when berries aren’t at their peak, you could also use blueberry pie filling or another type of pie filling to add to the center of the cream cheese! I have a recipe here that uses cherry pie filling! It’s just as delicious as using fresh fruit!

Crumble Topping – Feel free to experiment with the crumble topping by adding in nuts or other seasonings! You can add in some sliced almonds or chopped walnuts to really add an extra crunch with a salty note!

Equipment Needed:

Hand Mixer – I like to use an electric mixer to mix together the cream cheese mixture! It helps everything incorporate more evenly and get a light and fluffy texture! You can also add everything to the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment!

Mixing Bowl –  In my kitchen, I have a set of glass bowls that come in about 8 different sizes! From a small pinch bowl to a large bowl, it’s great for recipes like this, where I need a few different bowls for each part! I like to mix the softened cream cheese in a medium bowl, and mix the crumble in a small bowl!

Baking Sheet – Baking Sheets are crucial in my kitchen for sweet and savory! I use them almost every single day whether I’m baking or making dinner! For this recipe, I use a parchment paper lined baking sheet to prevent anything from sticking!

Helpful Tips and Tricks

To make this recipe easy, be sure to use room temperature cream cheese! If you try to mix together the cream cheese mixture with the cream cheese straight from the fridge, it’ll be really tricky to mix everything together smoothly! You could even end up with little chunks of cream cheese throughout the mixture!

I like to make an egg wash which consists of one egg with a splash of water! You can also use an egg yolk mixed with water or use heavy cream if you don’t want to lose an egg!

This recipe is one of my favorite desserts to make! Whenever I go out to a bakery or coffee shop, and see a cream cheese pastry on the menu, I’m ordering it without hesitation! Making a cream cheese pastry at home is even easier than you think! Not only do they taste delicious, but you can experiment with the flavors and make your perfect pastry! This Blueberry Crumble Cream Cheese Pastry is my new favorite summer treat that’s perfect for breakfast, snack or dessert!

Cheers!
