Soft, crumbly muffins filled with the delicious flavors of a classic chai! These Chai Crumble Muffins will make your morning 100 times better! Even if it's a Monday!
Let's Talk Chai
I could probably talk about chai tea every second of the day! If I’m going to a coffee shop, I’m going to order the chai, no questions asked!
In fact, every morning my caffeine of choice is a vanilla chai with a generous splash of creamer. It’s a sweet and spicy, warm hug in a mug. Not to mention the fact that it’s delicious hot or iced, which makes this a year-round treat to enjoy.
Chai spice is typically composed of cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Some recipes call for a pinch of black pepper that really helps enhance the spiciness of the mixture. You’ll noticed that it’s filled to the brim with warm spices, especially the cinnamon and cloves!
Because of all the warm spices in chai, pairing chai with vanilla or cinnamon really helps enhance the chai flavors without being overpowering.
Crumble Makes Everything Better
Every time I make muffins, I have this automatic urge to add a crumble to the top of it. I can’t help myself. Adding extra butter and sugar just makes everything better, am I right!?
With these Chai Crumble Muffins, I didn’t hold back and added a spiced crumble to the top of these muffins!
But what’s the difference between crumble versus streusel? It might seem kind of confusing when you hear about a streusel topping for coffeecake versus a crumble muffin or even a crumble pie.
Basically, they’re the same thing. Essentially, it’s a topping made of flour, butter, and sugar. You can add different spices to them and use them to top muffins, cakes, pies, etc.
It’s all delicious!

Tips and Tricks
My favorite trick for getting domed, bakery-style muffins is to leave an open muffin tin in between each muffin. This helps the air circulate around the muffins which causes them to rise beautifully! Let's be real: the muffin top is everyone's favorite part.
Be sure to generously sprinkle the crumble on top of the muffins! You really want the muffins to have a nice crumb topping!
These muffins are absolutely addicting for a chai lover like myself! It's basically like having your morning tea and breakfast all wrapped into one delicious muffin.
And let's not forget that crumble topping. That might be my favorite part.
Cheers!
