Why You’ll Love…

You’ll love how easy this toaster strudel recipe is to whip together on a busy morning! I love making these on a Sunday morning so that you can grab and go each day during the week! It’s quick and easy recipe with simple ingredients but tastes so much better than what you find at the grocery store! Not to mention, you can customize this recipe to fit whatever flavors you like best!

Store-Bought Puff Pastry

Pre-made Puff Pastry Sheets are my favorite store-bought shortcuts to use when baking! From pastries to chicken pot pies, they work perfectly in sweet or savory applications! One of my favorite recipes to make is a cream cheese pastry that tastes just like it’s from a fancy bakery but is way cheaper and I get a whole batch to myself!

There are recipes to make puff pastry yourself, but to cut down on the flour and butter needed, I just prefer to grab a store-bought package! So I guess you could technically call these semi-homemade toaster strudels, but that’s good enough for me!

Substitutions and Additions:

These Homemade Strawberry Toaster Strudels are like a blast from the past in the best way possible! Here are few options to customize these treats:

Strawberry Jam – You can use strawberry preserves or whichever jam you like best! From Blueberry jam, to blackberry jelly, you have a ton of options to add to the middle of these puff pastry strudels. You can do this to make a ton of different flavors!

Fresh Fruit – If you wanted to bump up the fruit flavor, you can add a few fresh strawberries chopped into small pieces on top of the jam! This works for whatever fruit flavor you’re using!

Sweet Icing – You can also customize the icing drizzle that you add to the top! I like to use vanilla extract and make a vanilla glaze, but you could add a tablespoon of jam instead and get a fruity drizzle for the top!

Equipment Needed:

Baking Sheet – I prefer to use a large baking sheet to give the puff pastry plenty of room to puff up in the oven!

Parchment Paper – I like to use a piece of parchment paper on my baking sheet to make clean up a breeze!

Rolling Pin – Usually I don’t roll out puff pastry, but since this recipe has two puff pastry rectangles in each pastry, I like to roll out the dough so it’s a bit thinner! This helps it cook a bit quicker and more evenly in the oven!

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1. Roll out puff pastry sheet, then cut into 6 rectangles.

Step 2. In the center of each piece of puff pastry, add in the strawberry jam, leaving a 1/2 inch border.

Step 3: Brush the egg wash along the edges, then add another piece on top.

Step 4. Cut lines in the top of the puff pastry to allow air to circulate and bake on a prepared baking sheet until golden brown!

Storage Instructions:

I like to store these toaster strudels in the fridge for about 3-4 days! When you’re ready to eat them, you can pop them in the microwave for a few seconds! If you haven’t added the glaze yet, you can pop them in the toaster!

If you want to freeze this recipe, I recommend leaving the glaze off, and letting the puff pastry cool completely. Then wrap in plastic wrap and store in an airtight freezer-bag until ready to eat!

Helpful Tips and Tricks

For an egg wash, I just use one egg and splash of water! If you don’t want to use a whole egg for this, you can use an egg yolk or heavy cream!

If you can’t find puff pastry at the store, you can use pie dough, but please note that the texture will be slightly different! It will be more like a hand pie without the flakey buttery layers of the puff pastry!

This recipe has to be one of my favorite things to make for a busy week ahead! With just a few store-bought shortcuts, you can have an easy and delicious breakfast treat that’s ready in minutes! Not to mention, it’s an easy recipe to customize so you can make these for the holidays, birthdays, or any random day that needs a special occasion!

Cheers!
