Why You’ll Love…

You’ll love how easy these delicious homemade pop tarts are to make! With just a few store-bought shortcuts, you and your kids can be snacking on delicious and easy homemade treats! Not only are they a blast of nostalgia, but they’re perfect to customize for holidays, parties or events! Can you imagine how cute homemade strawberry pop tarts would be in heart shapes for a Valentine’s Day treat!?

Homemade vs. Store-bought

In all honesty, homemade pie dough is not something I enjoy making, and that’s okay! We all have things that we don’t enjoy or just simply don’t have the time to make! There are so many great store-bought shortcuts that are easy to grab and still makes you feel like you made something from scratch!

I like to buy the package of pie dough that comes in two rolled packages! It’s easy to roll out and you really don’t even need a rolling pin! If you want to really get your hands dirty, I’ve seen packages of pie dough that come in the cake mix section of the grocery store!

Of course, if you have a family favorite homemade pie crust, make that instead! Just remember, there’s no shame is using a shortcut, especially with store-bought pie crust!

Additions and Substitutions

I love the combination of these blueberry pop tarts with a vanilla glaze, but here are some other options to try out!

Strawberry – It’s a classic for a reason! Add some strawberry jam in the middle to turn these into strawberry pop tarts! Feel free to use whatever fruit jam you like the best! Although, I would stick to using jams over fresh fruit!

Nutella – Add some chocolate hazelnut spread to the these pop tarts to make a delicious chocolaty start to your morning!

Equipment Needed:

Rolling Pin – I like to use a rolling pin to gently roll out my pie dough! You may not need this depending on the type of refrigerated pie dough you find at your grocery store!

Pastry Brush – I like to use a silicone pastry brush to gently brush the egg wash on the sides of the pie dough! You can also just use your finger as well!

Parchment Paper – This helps prevent the poptarts from sticking the pan after baking and makes clean up a breeze!

Baking Sheet –  I like to use a large baking sheet to give these treats plenty of room to bake in the oven! I let them cool on the

Knife – I like to use a knife to cut the pie dough, if you wanted you could use a pizza cutter as well! You don’t have to do anything fancy though, just a sharp knife will do!
