What's inside a Chocolate Cookie Skillet?
The first time I saw a cookie skillet, I was a young kid sitting in a restaurant when I saw a waiter walk by with this warm and delicious cookie skillet loaded up with ice cream and chocolate sauce. It was mouthwatering and made the meal in front of me look lackluster to say the least.
Cookie skillets are basically a cookie dough that gets baked into a skillet, usually served with some kind of topping! (The restaurant cookie skillet with loaded up with ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, caramel, and a cherry. Call me crazy, but I prefer a simple life of just ice cream.) By baking the cookie dough in the skillet it gets a crispy edge but still ends up being gooey and soft in the middle.
You should be able to bake any cookie dough in a skillet, so feel free to pop open that store-bought cookie dough and prepared to wow everyone! Just know that you want to get that perfect middle bite with the melty ice cream and the gooey center. That bite is reserved just for you.
Types of Chocolate
For the recipe, I wanted to pump up the chocolate flavor by adding in dark chocolate chips. I love when you get a bite of melty chocolate chip in with the fudgy part of the cookie.
Since there's already a bit of sugar in this recipe, I like to use dark chocolate to help balance out the sweetness of the dessert. If you don't like dark chocolate, you could always swap it with semi-sweet.
I would caution against using milk chocolate since that can be very sweet and you don't want to overwhelm this cookie skillet! However, the world is your cookie skillet so use whatever chocolate you like best!
