This easy Apple Danish is a flakey puff pastry filled with cinnamon brown sugar apples and drizzled with a vanilla glaze. The hardest part about this recipe is figuring out whether you want to eat these for breakfast or dessert! Although, honestly, I prefer both!
What is an Apple Danish?
Apple Danish (or apple turnovers) are a pastry filled with cinnamon apples! I like to use puff pastry to make it easier, but you could also use homemade pie crust too or even a homemade puff pastry recipe!
The recipe starts off by cooking the apples down with cinnamon, brown sugar, sugar, and a little bit of vanilla. After you let the apples cool, you can fill the puff pastry with the apples! It bakes up perfectly with a golden flakey crust and the apples are soft and delicious!
You can choose to wrap the puff pastry however you like! I like to fold mine over into little triangles! You could do squares, circles, or even fun shapes for the holidays!
Tips and Tricks
- After cooking the apples, make sure they cool down first before adding them to the puff pastry.
- Make sure to let the puff pastry thaw according to package directions! You want to be able to work with the puff pastry but it still needs to be cold in order to get those flakey layers!
- You can add more milk to the glaze to get the consistency you want! More milk, equals a thinner glaze. Less milk, a thicker glaze! I like my glaze on the thinner side so it coats the top of the danish!
Apple Season
I know, I know, it's also pumpkin season, but we can't forget about apples! There's caramel apples, apple cider, apple donuts, apple picking, etc. Apples are just as seasonal as pumpkins and equally as delicious in baked goods!
