Chewy caramel with melty chocolate and crunchy pretzels; can you imagine a better treat than these Caramel Pretzel Candies!? Not only do they hit every single flavor combination, but you can make these in 10 minutes! I know, right!?
Quick and simple
The holidays are always so busy, right! I mean, I love them, but there's cookie parties, friends-giving, light shows to see, family coming in, presents to buy (and wrap), etc. So many fun things all crammed into 4 short weeks!
Which is probably why I love these little candies so much. Well, it’s one of the reasons, the first being that they are utterly addicting.
These candies can be made in ten minutes and it makes so many! You could easily make these and keep them on hand for any random parties that pop up or any guests that show up! They last for about 10 days in an airtight container. Although, I’ve never been able to get mine to last longer than 5 days because it’s so easy to just pop one into your mouth as your walking by.
Caramel is a must
Technically, the chocolate candy on top is up to you! You could do any kind of small chocolate candy you’d like, one’s filled with peanut butter, mint, it’s up to you. I’ve had these before with a peanut butter filled chocolate and, while it was very good, these caramel ones are the best.
The caramel is so chewy and delicious, it plays really well the crunchy pretzel. I love the sweetness of the chocolate and caramel with the saltiness of the pretzel and pecan on top.
I’ve even seen some versions of this recipe where the pecan is swapped out with another candy, like a candy-coated chocolate! This is also a very delicious version, but I love this one the best.
I like a good balance between sweet and salty, and I think this variation does exactly that!
Plus, I can’t resist a good caramel pull.
Ingredient list
Be prepared, the ingredient list for these Caramel Pretzel Candies is intense.
- Pretzels - I like to use the mini pretzels for this, because I think it catches most of the melty chocolate candy when you press it down with the pecan. You could also use the mini square pretzels as well! I would stay away from the pretzels shaped like a circle because the chocolate could just pop right through the pretzel.
- Caramel chocolate candies - I like the mini ones that come in the gold wrapper, if you get my meaning. But you can also use most mini chocolate candies you like!
- Pecans - For these, I used the pecan halves, I think a whole pecan would be a bit much, but use what you’d like!
I know, it’s a big one.
Usually, I recommend to add a sprinkle of salt to every dessert, however, there’s always an exception to every rule. I don’t recommend adding any extra salt to this recipe because of the salty pretzels. They’re doing a lot, so you don’t have to!
Tips and Tricks
One of the biggest tips I can give for this recipe is to get everything set up first! This dessert moves quickly, so I like to get all my candy unwrapped, all of my pecan halves out and ready, *then* I start to assemble.
When the chocolate is out of the oven, you want to work quickly to press down the pecans while the chocolate is soft. I think it’s just easier to have them already ready first!
My second tip is to stay by the oven while the chocolate is melting. Every oven works differently so if your oven runs hotter the chocolate could melt quicker. You don’t want these to be melty and runny, just the chocolate to be soft. So I recommend to stay by the oven, keeping an eye on them!
These really are so easy to make and practically addicting to eat!
I dare you to have just one!
Cheers!
