If you thought warm cookies and milk were the best cookies could get, you are absolutely wrong! We all know the best part of cookies is the dough before it even gets baked! This No Bake Edible Cookie dough is soft, smooth, and loaded with chocolate chips! It’s going to be your new favorite dessert, I just know it!!
First, Is It Safe?
Okay, I know we’ve all kind of brushed off the warnings to not eat cookie dough! I know I have tried a little bit of raw dough here and there…
There’s actually two parts to making sure this is a truly No-Bake Edible Cookie Dough! Part one deals with the eggs! This was actually a pretty easy mix; I just took the eggs out of the recipe completely! No need to worry about raw eggs if they aren’t even in the batter!
The second part is warming up the flour! To make the flour safe to eat it needs to be heated up to 180 degrees F. This kills off any random bacteria in the flour! Bet you didn’t know flour was also the danger factor in raw dough, did ya?
Why So Salty?
My favorite combination is sweet and salty. I’ll love chocolate covered pretzels or chicken and waffles with sweet sweet maple syrup. But I think it is crucial to add a little bit of salt with every sweet thing.
Adding the salt helps enhance the sweetness; so think about the sweetness of the vanilla and the chocolate chips, this is all enhanced by the salt. The salt helps to bring out the natural sweetness in the vanilla and highlight it in a way that you would probably miss if there was no salt in it at all.
For this recipe I like to add just a little bit more salt because I think it helps balance the dough. With the sugar, the vanilla, and the chocolate chips, you don’t want this to get too sweet where no one wants to eat it.
If you think that you’re not going to be a fan of the extra salt just stick with the recipe; the recipe was created for the perfect balance of salt. If you are like me and you like to bump up the salty-sweet vibe, add just a little pinch more. I promise you, you won’t regret it!
So What's the Difference?
Can't I just put this in the oven and get the best of both worlds? Ah, that really would be the ideal situation right?
Unfortunately for this recipe, there are no leavening agents (baking soda, baking powder), and there's no eggs. While you might be able to get away with not adding eggs, the dough wouldn't rise. So you would probably end up with weird flattened discs. Which, while they would might still taste delicious, would not look good at all.

Notes
So even though this cookie dough is totally safe to eat, since there's no raw eggs and you've heated up the flour, it still wouldn't work if you put it in the oven!
That will have to be the next cookie dough recipe for me to work on! But in the meantime, enjoy this No-Bake Edible Cookie Dough (perhaps with an extra pinch of salt!)!
Cheers!
