Thick, chewy cookies loaded up with dark chocolate, cinnamon, and quick cook oats make these Oatmeal Cookies the oatmeal cookie of your dreams! No raisins allowed in these Oatmeal Cookies!
Oatmeal Cookie Time
Oatmeal cookies seem like a very underrated cookie. I mean how many people even say that oatmeal cookies are their favorite? Even I forget about them when I’m talking about my favorite cookies.
But when I make them and I get that first bite fresh from the oven and they’re a little bit chewy from the oats, sweet from the chocolate and a little kick from the cinnamon and my world realigns. And I always think to myself, “Why don’t I make these Oatmeal Cookies more!?!”
Honestly, I think Oatmeal Cookies get a bad rep from the confusion of raisins when everyone thinks its going to be a chocolate chip and it’s not. It’s hard to build a good relationship without trust.
So no fear here because these Oatmeal Cookies are loaded with oats, dark chocolate chips and cinnamon to create a deliciously balanced cookie. I love how chewy these oatmeal cookies are with the oats and the little bit of warmth from the cinnamon.
Now I just have to solve the final question: if there’s oats in it, does that make it breakfast!?
No Raisins Allowed
I think we’ve all made the mistake of grabbing an oatmeal cooking thinking it has chocolate chips and then discover that it was raisins all along.
It definitely catches you off-guard and I’m speaking from experience here. I am not a raisin lover, unless they’re covered in chocolate, but then does it even count?
This is why I only put chocolate in my oatmeal cookie recipes. My grandma used to use raisins and pecans in her oatmeal cookie recipe, which was probably the only exception to the rule. But I think grandmas’ recipes are excluded from rules right?
However, I believe in freedom of choice in my recipes, so if you love, love, love raisins, you add them in! If you love cranberries, add them in! Actually, I do think that dried cranberries would be delicious in here… I actually have a Dark Chocolate Cranberry cookie that you can try if you’re a cranberry lover!

Tips and Tricks
The title says ‘Tips and Tricks’ but honestly, these are a pretty simple recipe to make!
I like to mix the dry ingredients in most of the way, before I add in the oats. I do this so I don’t have to worry about the oats getting too broken up when I’m mixing it!
Whenever I’m making cookies, I use my mixer to mix in the wet ingredients, but then I use a spatula to mix in the dry ingredients. This helps make sure that I don’t overmix my cookie dough!
These Oatmeal Cookies are so wonderfully chewy and sweet and everything you want in Oatmeal Cookies. Not to mention they remind me of my sweet grandma Carol and her wonderful oatmeal cookies she would make.
Cheers to you Grandma Carol!
